Lets take a moment to reflect upon the recently ended 2005 marching season.
When the drumline first met in August on that first day of camp, there were way too many of us on the drums. So many in fact that there were not enough drums for people try out on the one they wanted. That's with combination of the old white and new reds. Anyway, not wanting to really focus much on that part I will give you the quick version of this years camp. It was hot, the rehearsals were long, and we got yelled at. Oh and we didn't get music much.
A second to mention the bass line however as to how quick they picked up the runs this year in the warm up charts. Last year at finals there were certain people that were still messing the parts up. Anyway go bass.
It seemed like the season was going to be inside this year. The weather was terrible. It seemed as though every show we had on the weekends it rained. Sometimes the show was moved inside, others it wasn't wet enough to pull inside. Finally the weather started to get better, and the remainder of the season was marched outside. As a matter of fact, MAC finals was really warm. But that's getting ahead of myself.
We were have many problems with getting music this season. I will not go on to point the finger at anyone because there really is not a point to it. The fact that were were getting new charts Monday, then again on Wednesday and marching them on Saturday was stressful to many of the members in the line. The cymbal line it seemed like got the most of this. They hardly had much to play in September. It seemed like they were getting new stuff the whole season. They took it well though.
unfortunately the staff really never was happy with anything we did. It seemed sometimes that the more we tried, the more crap we got. Almost makes a person want to throw the towel. Thankfully nobody just up and left this year. There may be one person out there that says they left but we all know the story with that and really buddy, all you had to do was come to rehearsal. You got fired, you didn't leave. End of story.
The rest of the season didn't exactly progress much. It seemed like there was a wall that was just put up in front up the line this year. Not to say that some individuals didn't get better, the line as a whole didn't progress. Sometimes it happens other times it doesn't. Again, no need to go any further with that.
The season ended with kind of a eh rather than a bang. Personally I never really felt like the show had that one moment when people sit back and just go wow. That was cool. The Connecticut show was one of the better ones that we played, though I'm not sure if I would call it the best. That evening though did go out with a bang and really, if you weren't there, I cant possibly tell you what it was like. Though I will try:
Short Version,
There were many cases of beer that the bar was more than happy to hand out to eager customers with the money. After spending what ended up being a good chunk of time in the bar ( uh hemm ), there was something about a tree, a broom and dust pan, some little Asian lady, and well that's pretty much how the story goes. The bus ride back in the morning was rather un-eventful. The truck broke down twice, which is not a surprise. Its on the last leg and believe me, that leg is severely broken.
Well that's about it. The season in a nut-shell. There isn't much use into going to deep detail because honestly, the season was not that great. There was a lot of yelling, some bad blood, but still a few laughs amongst friends. Next year is a new year to come back fresh and ready to go. Things will change, new music will be written. Again we will march onto the field as a line, and be separated when we leave.
