POP Century

Announced in December 1999, Disney's POP Century Resort is the newest of the value rated resorts. The resort pays homage to the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, and 1990's. Reservations for these buildings were accepted starting in April of 2003.

Originally POP Century was to be constructed and opened in two phases. Phase I was called the classic years and is the buildings that are occupied by guests today. Phase II was to be called the Legendary years and spanned from 1900 to 1940. Though some construction was done is this area, this side of the resort was never completed, or opened to the public. Today the construction site plays host to storage for the Classic Years. The original plans also called for a lake named "Hourglass Lake" which separated these two areas, with a bridge that was to be called "The Generation Gap Bridge".  Though this was completed, the bridge often has been blocked off by generic bushes and benches. On some vacations I was able to cross the bridge only to be met by the bushes and benches on that side, other vacations the bridge was closed. At last reports, the bridge was open.

Previous to June 2007, The Walt Disney World Resort blocked a small number of rooms to be designated as smoking rooms. As of now, all of the Walt Disney World Resort rooms are officially non-smoking, keeping in accordance to Florida law.

The theme of the resort carries not only to the individual rooms, but the three pools as well. The Bowling Pin Pool services the 1950's building, The Hippy Dippy Pool services the 1960's, and the Computer Pool services the 1980's and 90's, though guests of any building are able to visit any pool. Other recreation includes water jet play areas, a video arcade, playgrounds, and kiddie pool.

As with all resorts, Check In is officially 3:00 PM and Check Out is 11:00 AM.
