December 2003: The seed of interest was planted by a Cast Member while on a trip to Disney with the high school marching band. Disney set the band up with a guide while we were backstage in case we needed any help. Her and I started to talk about the college program. Being this was the first time I was exposed to it, and also combined with the fact that I really had not thought that much about college, I thanked her for the information and did not really take it further than that.
September 2005: The initial request was made by me to the Disney company expressing my interest in taking part in this college program. After the interest application was filed with the company, I was to take part in a presentation a little over a month later on October 24, 2005 at Northeastern University in Boston.
October 2005: After surviving the first round of waiting I was on my way to Boston to meet with the Disney recruiting team and sit through a rather lame presentation. Though the information was presented and well informed way, the media that was used was pretty cheesy. Dina, the woman that was in charge of the presentation, was well spoken and very informative with the questions that were asked. She was a very nice lady and really got me even more excited for what was possibly to come. That being said, it was on to the next step; a phone interview to be had the next day around 3 o'clock.
The next day: A short round of waiting, yet most stressful. The entire day I pondered what could happen that afternoon on the phone, such as what questions that would be asked. The final 10 minutes before the phone call were extremely painful. The phone call finally came, as fast as the phone rang, the interview was over. Though I was confidant that I had made a fabulous impression, I was also nervous that my impression was not enough.
Next came the longest wait of the process.
October - November: October 26, 2005, officially started the offer wait. From that date until November 13, 2005, I waited everyday for an offer from the Disney company. The first week went by with relative ease as I did not expect an offer within the first week. The second week came and I started to check my e-mail a few times a day. ( Not to my knowledge the offer would be in paper form through the US mail service ) The third week came and I started to get a little nervous because I had not heard anything from the company and others that I had been in contact with had been notified. Finally as I was about to enter my fourth week of waiting, and have given up almost all hope, a significant sized envelope arrived in the mailbox. Much to my relief the Disney Company offered me an internship for the Spring '06 season. Quickly logging onto the website I set up everything I needed to accept their offer.
Final Thoughts: My experience as a Cast Member at the Walt Disney World Resort will begin January 11th, 2006 and end a few short months later on May 19th of the same year. As of what to comment on now, there isn't much that I can given I have not had the experience yet.
With about 57 days of waiting there are many things that I need to do before I can leave. A little bit of paper work, a haircut, the day also shall come that I shave, as well as pack some things that may be important; such as pants and possibly a shirt. To those that I will leave behind at school and at home we will keep in touch and maybe if things work out, we can meet "in the World." If not the internet makes life easy, and I am only a phone call away. Don't fret now, I don't leave for awhile and there is still much more time in this semester.
Until next time,
~Steve
